MoMo Tee/ MoMo DJ is the alter egos of Jason Reed US Hip Hop producer and ½ of the chart toping DJ/production duo Soul Providers (Ian 45 Carey / Jason Papillon)

Jason began his professional production career with fellow Élan Records co- founder and DJ/ production partner Ian “45” Carey in Baltimore, MD USA 1999. The 2 quickly climbed the underground latter finding their productions on the play list of every DJ world wide while. As the Soul Providers name grew so did their DJ schedule and popularity, giving them the opportunity to travel the world displaying their signature big room soulful sound.

As time went on during the peak of the Soul Providers reign Jason quickly became jaded of the same rigmarole and decided to move on. Although he is quick to tell anyone they never broke up, “As far as I’m concerned I will always be a Soul Provider and support Ian (Carey) to the fullest…being his friend and partner is one of the MOST important things to happen in my life… he’s a large part of why I am who I am now.”

Jason moved to the NJ/NYC area and reacquainted himself with his 1st love, Hip Hop. As the “stupid years of rap” as he calls them became to come to an end (partially) he engulfed himself in to everything Hip Hop. He’s produced some of the best Hip Hop events from NY, Philly, DC, ATL and Miami. He’s also pushing out music for Ashanti, Method Man, Pall Wall, Ghost face and more.

Slowly his craving for house music crept back in. Playing a gig here and there with friend Todd Gardner, making a few beats for his own listening pleasure and hanging at NYC’s posh underground clubs began his interested in coming back to electronic dance. It’s was in NYC hanging out with Ian where it all reignited his love for the music. “I saw Ian spin and got that feeling for a brief moment, the next week I was with Todd G at his residency, Pacha and that did me in, I need to make a come back.” Secretly working on tracks in between his Hip Hop obligations he began to develop the MoMo DJ sound. To see if he still had what it takes to rock a big room crowd he arranged a night with set with Ian and their last gig together. Many in Washington DC are calling it the best club night of 2006

Although still on top of his Hip Hop game he’s learning to balance the 2 genres. Be on the look out for MoMoTee and MoMo DJ at a club near you soon. For any house music related questions, interviews or bookings please send an email to this myspace account or kanduninfo@yahoo.com

About Darryl, http://www.darryldbonneau.com/

The Past... How many success stories have you heard that began in Charleston, South Carolina? When you think of Charleston, you think of the Deep South - A port city drenched in Southern tradition and charm. Out of one of those Southern traditions, Darryl D'Bonneau's star was born. Some of the greatest singers of our day got their start singing in the Southern tradition of the Gospel choir. Divas such as Aretha Franklin, Candi Staton & Whitney Houston started in church and brought that spirit to the Pop charts and Dance floors of the World over. So much has been made of the divas, but what about the men? Darryl D'Bonneau is the latest name to be added to that prestigious list that includes Sam Cooke, Isaac Hayes & Sylvester. He started singing at the age of four, but it wasn't until he was ten years old that his career took off in earnest. His family moved to New York and his natural singing ability got the attention of Rev. Jerry Burns. Under his supervision, Darryl recorded his first Gospel record called, Love at Open Door. Darryl soon brought that spirit to the clubs, where he quickly developed a following. One day while laying down tracks in the studio, Choreographer Jamale Graves heard him singing and contacted his friend Martha Wash. It was one of those moments when your life comes full circle, his early musical influences were in fact Sylvester & Martha Wash on the Dance tip and James Cleveland, Shirley Ceasar & Clara Ward from the Gospel world. The Present... Presently, Darryl is helping to create a new fusion by mixing old, soulful R&B vocalizations over a contemporary club sound. This multi-talented singer has impressed many an audience with his unique voice and commanding stage presence. Over the years, D'Bonneau has released recordings with record labels such as New Generation, Jellybean, Kult, Nervous & Easy Street. He has collaborated with producers like Hex Hector, (Deborah Cox, Shannon) & David Sussman. D'Bonneau's career has been blessed with having worked with legends such as Martha Wash, Sylvester, Taylor Dayne & Diana Ross. Looking toward the future, It's The Spirit From Mr. D'Bonneau New CD! ON MY WAY has made number one on every DJs dance chart in 2005. Stop Playing With My Mind, (a duet with Barbara Tucker), scored the number one position on the Billboard Club Play chart for Strictly Rhythm Records in February 2000. He is ready to use his experience on TV, (Tops of the Pops & the Arsenio Hall Show), and in the clubs (12 West, Cheetah Bar, Body & Soul, Limelight & the Shelter, Love Paride in Germany), to take his career to the next level on Strictly Rhythm Records. Look for the Lenny Fontana produced singles titled Pow Pow Pow, and Can We Do It Again as Powerhouse feat. Darryl D'Bonneau. You may remember the last Powerhouse release. It looks like another ..1 may be in Darryl's future. A Better Way - JellyBean and Darryl back together again.

Well, basically I’ve been around music all of my life, as a kid growing up in Detroit, jazz was usually what you would hear in our house. There wasn’t a day that would go by where you would not hear "WJZZ" on the radio. Early in grade school I learned to play the sax, that’s where the fascination with musical instruments started. At first I played by ear then later I learned how to read music a little, with the lead and bass guitars and piano. In 1976-77 was when I got into DJing. It wasn’t until 1981 while in the military where I started doing parties with the other djs who were also in the military. From there I’ve had the chance to play wherever I was stationed, UK, Korea, Virginia, SC, California to name a few. House hit me real hard in 87 while in this club called “the fridge" in Brixton just right outside of London, at that moment the music took control of my thoughts and emotions. I was like fooooooool calm down but it was cool doe. Ever since then I’ve been your classic house head’ way see’ , I have learned a lot about this music that we love, especially from my Detroit heads "whatupdoe" from the art of mixing both on the tables and in the studio. I appreciate given the chance to play at venues here in Detroit and at the WMC in Miami. Looking forward I see good things and here good things. In closing to all of my peeps and whoever "be real" in whatever it is that you do, because if u are not real how in the hell do u expect for someone else to be real. "STAY DEEP" Peace. OH! P.S. I’AM THE "E" IN DEEP

Real Drama Real Talk Interview With Joi Cardwell
Explicit
July 28, 2009 08:12 PM PDT
itunes pic

Joi Cardwell sang for the pleasure of it before she turned professional and started contributing backing vocals for a list of other artists that includes LL Cool J, the Pointer Sisters, and Jermaine Jackson. A native of New York City, she stepped onto the stage at Carnegie Hall when she was five years old, singing "Three Blind Mice" as part of her school's performance there. Her teen years saw the dream of performing solidify, and she enrolled in New York University as a liberal arts major with a concentration in philosophy and literature. During her time at NYU, she entered a talent competition hosted by Harlem's Apollo Theatre. She earned top prize a total of five times, the first time by belting out "For Your Eyes Only." It wasn't long before she turned professional and started touring with Ben E. King. Producer Kashif tapped her to join a group called the Promise in 1989. The all-girl outfit made one album, but the recording was never released. Within two years, Cardwell quit to strike out on her own. She sang on the dance numbers "Saved My Life" and "Club Lonely" in 1992. During this time she sang backup for others, while her own solo career took her to a string of labels. She put out "Was It Something I Said" for Epic, "Holdin' On" for Freetown Records, and "Hot Little Body" for Tribal America, which also featured Behavior and Fred Jorio. A new career phase started in 1994, when Cardwell signed with Eightball Records, an independent label based in New York. She penned all the songs on The World Is Full of Trouble, her debut album, which she also produced. The 1995 album launched the hit single "Trouble." She went on to score hits with the singles "You Got to Pray," "Run to You," "Jump for Joi," and "Soul to Bare." A self-titled album was released in 1997, followed shortly by the 1998 remix compilation Clubland's Greatest Hits. In 2000, "Last Chance for Love" was honored as the Best Dance Song of the year by the Glama Awards, and she remained active throughout the next several years, with 12" releases on Junior Vasquez Music, Twisted, Curvve, and King Street Sounds. Cardwell is openly gay; she came out of the closet at the age of 21. ~ Linda Seida, All Music Guide

Real Drama Real Talk Interview with K Joy for the "I AM WOMAN" Cancer Charity Project

ABOUT THE K.JOY "I AM WOMAN" CHARITY RMX PROJECT feat. COLLECTIVE MEN & WOMEN UNITED for the WOMEN'S CANCER NETWORK (http://www.sonicbids.com/kjoyiamwoman):

IMPORTANT NOTE:

DUE TO UNFORESEEABLE TECHNICAL ISSUES WITH THE DONATION PROCESS, THE METHODS OF DONATION HAD TO BE CHANGED COMPLETELY TO REFLECT WHAT IS CURRENTLY IN PLACE BELOW. WE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY CONFUSION OR DIFFICULTIES SURROUNDING DONATING THAT THIS DELAYED REVISION HAS CAUSED, AND WE SINCERELY HOPE THAT THIS WILL NOT DETER YOU FROM ATTEMPTING TO DONATE IN THE FUTURE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND PARTICIPATION!

PROJECT RELEASE DATE:

JULY 20, 2009 (LISA BYERS' BIRTHDAY)

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

ORIGIN OF "I AM WOMAN" -

Cyberjamz Records' & K.Joy's "I Am Woman" Charity Remix Project, featuring Collective Men & Women United for the Women's Cancer Network, was born out of K.Joy's original unreleased Cyberjamz EP entitled "I Am Woman", featuring her younger sister Raiyn. The original song was written about their mother, Beverly C. Calloway, for a milestone birthday. K.Joy wanted to write a song where every word personified the essence of her mother's strength, perseverance, and overall...her completely phenomenal existence as a woman. Yet, she did not want the song to be so personal that it referred to only her mother, despite her mother being the subject of the lyrics. So, the solution became to create a song that was specific in describing character and quality, while general and powerful enough for ANY WOMAN to be able to relate and embrace the totality of the track. Because it was a birthday gift from child to mother, it only made sense to include her mother's only other child, her sister Raiyn (whose birth name is Mary C. Calloway), and make it a joint gift. What a stunning idea! Raiyn's hypnotically smooth and youthful voice coupled with the mature, soothing vocals of K.Joy's, over Chazz' mesmerizing South African Big Room sound, was EXACTLY what the track needed to make it the next sure-fire anthem for women all over the world!

CREATION OF CHARITY PROJECT TO HONOR LISA BYERS -

Later, K.Joy wanted to somehow honor the memory of their late God-sister, Lisa Byers, who passed away from cancer 4 days before Christmas in 2006 at the age of only 41. To K.Joy, it seemed fitting that a proper way to honor Lisa and the struggle with cancer (which she valiantly and gracefully fought without complaint), would be to dedicate a song to Lisa by giving all of the song's profits to a women's cancer charity. She came up with the idea to add a third verse, which spoke to the strength her God-sister displayed in the face of pain, suffering and death, to the song originally dedicated to her mother. This made more sense than starting all over and writing a completely new song where the entire content was about a topic that is somber in nature, which could have resulted in more of a tearjerker instead of the uplifting anthem that we have today. Although the cancer which snatched Lisa from her loved ones began with breast cancer several years previous to her death, and ended with a different form of cancer, K.Joy wanted to donate the revenue from the remix to a charity that focused on women and the cancers that target their sex (i.e. gynecologic cancers). In her research, ironically she found a charity that not only did exactly that, but also happened to be based out of Chicago, where she and Lisa were both from! Once the Women's Cancer Network of the Gynecologic Cancer Foundation was picked and they approved, the combined effort began with Soul Oasis (owner of Cyberjamz Records), K.Joy & WCN, and was later concluded with the collective efforts of many others.

A COMBINED EFFORT IS BORN -

K.Joy & Cyberjamz Records were fortunate to have an impressive lineup grace this critically important track, ranging from the unknown, to some locally, nationally, and internationally known, to even a very prominent & well known mainstream female Diva whose name is widely recognized outside of dance music. Even more amazing was the fact that EVERYONE who worked on this project DONATED their talent, expertise, time, hard work, sweat, energy and efforts FOR FREE, at the request of K.Joy (and all but 1 of the 7 additional guest vocalists had never met K.Joy in person)!!!! This is the reason that it is entitled "Collective Men & Women United for the Women's Cancer Network", because not only did the female vocalists volunteer themselves, but there were NUMEROUS MEN who donated their efforts for FREE as well, to see this project come to its completion! The producers of each track, along with the studio engineers, the graphic designer of the artwork, the engineer who mastered the tracks, the label owner and even the owners of the site selling the track were all MEN who either donated their time or their money for this cause! There were also other people, both men and women, who indirectly supported the cause by actively searching for the desired vocalists, and making the connections for K.Joy, in order to get all of the pieces of the puzzle together for a fabulous unified canvas of artwork in the end!

HONORING OTHER WOMEN AFFECTED BY CANCER -

Despite the MAIN focus being to honor her sister Lisa's memory, the final wish of K.Joy's for this project was for each vocalist and producer to be able to honor ONE WOMAN of their choice as well, by submitting their name as a designated honoree for the public to be able to donate in that person's name (in addition to being able to purchase the track for charity). K.Joy also added her aunt, Jackie Salter and her grandmother, Robbie Gunn, to the list of honorees since they are both triumphant cancer survivors. Specifically, the names on the honoree list are that of women who have either passed away from, survived, or are currently struggling with cancer of any form. The only requirement is that they had to be female, for the obvious reasons. This makes the project even more of a unified effort, because it then became a personal cause of everyone who submitted a name. For the few who were asked that did not have a name to submit, because they are uniquely blessed not to have known someone personally who was affected by this dreadful disease, they will support the honorees submitted by the others who had a name to give.

With all of these steps put into place, upon the release of the track, on the birthday anniversary of Lisa Byers, people everywhere will have the opportunity to do the following in order to donate money to this worthy cause:

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE DONATION PROCESS:

Real Drama Real Talk Interview with Weysa Dya

Weysa Dya is a lyricist, singer and poet. Meaning capable divine, the name phonetically plays on its actual spelling, (Weza, Swahili and Dyan, Latin). Moved by her experiences, surroundings, and desire to propel people, she writes because “words crowd my brain like city subways during rush hour.” Her hope is to make the listener feel something personal, something familiar or hidden, and to inspire thought of forward movement. “We live in a time where there is so much bad in the world that people are afraid to feel. We numb ourselves. But when there is no sensation, there is no elevation.” Weysa Dya has performed her writing in Baltimore, DC, Virginia, and Philly.
Born in Harlem and raised in the South Bronx, she grew up in the midst of a thriving Hip Hop culture. Graffiti art, break dancing, fashion, MC’ing, and DJing were dominant influences and pastimes. However, her pursuit of dance and singing were muted by an early life tragedy that suddenly introduced a more serious lifestyle and a practical need to survive. It wasn’t until the late 90’s after she moved to Baltimore that her life slowed down. She began the process of healing through writing and poetry and started reflecting on the creative inspirations of her grandfather, the multi-instrument musician, her mother, the chef and singer, and her father, the poet and former music engineer. This heritage encouraged her to refocus from the past to the future.

Gradually merging into what was dormant, Baltimore became the place of her awakening. There Weysa Dya did her first open-mic reading, entered and won prizes in two community-sponsored poetry slams (Sibanye’s and Eubie Blake Center), wrote her first song, and co-produced an instrumental R&B track. She did several feature performances throughout the city, including on-air spots with WEAA Morgan State Radio during poetry month. Using her writing, she created and conducted the Be Self-Treasured Workshop for women designed to build and maintain self-esteem. She was invited to participate as a speaker and poet in conjunction with two Baltimore City programs (Generation Xcellence and PAIRS) to empower teens to make better choices for their future.

Eventually, Weysa Dya realized she could no longer ignore the inner voice calling her back to music. She began studying under the late Dr. Nathan Carter at the Nathan Carter School of Music in Baltimore where she was classically trained and showcased her vocal ability in the school’s talent showcases. It is the love she holds in her heart for dancing that pushed Weysa Dya to become more involved with House music, the music that always made her feel free and expressive.

She twice performed her poetry to music on Handz On Radio, a House music internet station, during The Edge of Night’s live mix show. Weysa Dya has completed projects with guitarist, Wayne Cooper, Coop Music Productions, Geoffrey C, Edgemix Productions, TheQuietboy, QuietProductions, and Apple Jac, Sounds of Mecca Entertainment. She performed her House track, Connected Minds, at Baltimore’s 2008 Collective Minds Festival and at Miami's 2009 Winter Music Conference.

Weysa Dya is currently writing music for her upcoming EP. Her desire is to continue performing and eventually become more serious about music production. “No matter the circumstance, I will be creating in some way and sharing my gifts. The Creator knows more than anyone that this is truly my lifeline.”

Born William Rodriquez III, this young artist was heavily influenced by the wide range of musical sounds & styles introduced to him by his father, who’s taste varied from Cerrone to Loose Ends. Being a product of the early 80’s he was also exposed to various tones of Hip Hop and the dance scene.

An avid collector of 45’s by the age of 4, this experience continued to have an expression for Will’s creative outlet. By 1990 this gifted 10 year old taught himself by ear to play the keyboard and his growth for challenge was further ignited by his cousin’s influence of deep house tracks from such labels (strictly rhythm, nervous,) and the rich tone of dance music that by age 11, he was spinning and nurturing his craft of musical arrangements across the board from Hip-Hop, Rare Groove & Underground House Parties.

By 1992, Will was making beats with two tape decks, and a keyboard. This rich musical assortment continued to thrive on his passion for production. As he continued to advance himself in the art of making music so did his sound. His rich soulful debut “Take me to a place” was signed by Frankie Feliciano to his critically acclaim Ricanstruction label. This was quickly followed by a string of remixes for Sole Channel, Home Recordings,MN2S(just to name a few) along with recently signing with the label Sole Channel.( Mr V) Will “Reel Soul”Rodriquez is in high demand with his Dj/Producer/Remixing skills being sought from L.A. to London to mix shows east & west. Some of Mr Rodriquez’s current favorite artist & producers (blaze,dj spinna, m.a.w.alix alvarez) he listens to only encourages him to create more music and push the boundaries. Reel Soul is the real thing.

Real Drama Interview with Quentin Harris
Explicit
June 02, 2009 08:44 PM PDT
itunes pic

Written by Jeffery Taylor
Some people are destined for greatness. With talent and drive, they accomplish things that others can only dream of. People like Quentin Harris. As one of today’s most respected producers and DJs, Harris maintains a hectic travel schedule that spans the globe while working with artists like Mariah Carey, Justin Timberlake, and Jennifer Hudson. Making music is something that Quentin Harris was born to do, and he spreads his joy to people on dance floors all over the world.

“Music was around me everywhere,” at his parents’ or grandmother’s, Quentin Harris says of his childhood growing up in Detroit. “From Ray Charles to classical—everything,” Quentin says. “We heard it all. I think that’s why I have such an eclectic mindset.”

His father and younger brother played trumpet; his mother played violin, cello, and French horn; his grandmother played piano; and his older sister sang in the church choir. So it’s no surprise that Quentin developed quite a penchant for music. When he was only five, he taught himself to play piano. Quentin didn’t have formal training until he was 12, when he was already playing Bach and Beethoven. Clearly a prodigy, he went through three piano teachers, because they kept making him play elementary pieces.

After his grandfather died, Quentin came across his father’s old beat-up trumpet from high school. His father bought him a trumpet of his own, and the two would have competitions. “Anything you can play, I can play better,” his father would say to motivate the young musician. They would play together; that is, until Quentin started to surpass him in skill level. “And he kindly put his trumpet down,” Quentin recalls, with a laugh.

When he was 13, his father bought him his first set of turntables. Unlike most kids his age, Quentin never wanted toys for Christmas or birthdays, but instead asked for records, radios, or other electronics. It was also around this time that he entered the recording studio. His uncle, who had a hip-hop group, would bring Quentin along to play keyboard lines on the synthesizers during their sessions. Before long, Quentin was telling the group what to do and directing them musically. “I didn’t realize,” he says now, “at the time, what I was doing was being a producer.”

By the time he started high school, Quentin was picking up other brass instruments with ease. He joined the orchestra and jazz band, and was even assigned a project where he had to score and arrange the parts for the whole school band. Quentin played keyboards in his own band as well, where he started experimenting with the sounds of hip-hop and R&B—before they had truly emerged on the scene. “It's always been my mentality, even to this day,” Quentin explains. “I'm always looking forward and thinking ahead.”

Growing up in Detroit in the ‘80s, Quentin was heavily influenced by the sounds of pop and techno, which originated in the Motor City. He was glued to the radio. “Radio was very different when I was growing up,” he recalls. “The actual DJ was a DJ and not just a radio personality.” Hearing such influences as Prince and Michael Jackson as well as the electronic stylings of bands like Kraftwerk helped to shape the ear of the budding producer. “I guess it made me who I am today musically,” he says.

Motor City to NYC & Back Again
After high school, Quentin started taking trips to New York. “That’s really when I got the bug,” says Harris. “It was everything I liked that was being played in the clubs in Detroit, but on a bigger scale. I knew this was where I needed to be.”

The first DJ he heard in New York was Junior Vasquez. “It was mind-blowing because I had never heard records played like that before,” he recalls. “He took records and made them sing. He took records that I heard a lot and presented them in a new light to me—manipulating them, mixing them in a certain way, bringing them in and out, playing with people’s heads with music.” The second New York DJ that really opened up Harris was Timmy Regisford of Shelter fame: “He was just relentless. I never heard any spaces; I never heard any pauses; I never heard any breaks.”

Back in Detroit, Harris started working with Michael J. Powell, who produced Anita Baker’s three Grammy award-winning albums. He freelanced at Powell’s studio as a session musician for such artists as Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle. Harris got even more heavily involved with hip-hop, playing at open mic nights at The Hip-Hop Shop on 7 Mile in Detroit, where he met many of the emerging heavy hitters of the hip-hop scene, including Eminem and many of the other characters made famous by the film 8 Mile.

“The music scene in Detroit is very small, and I’ve had the pleasure of learning from and working with a lot of great people,” Quentin states. “But I always knew that, in order for me to actually do what I had to do, I couldn’t do it and still live in Detroit. I guess this may be my competitive nature, but I needed to be where everything was.”

Quentin was offered the position of touring DJ with The Masterminds, a local group for whom he had produced a number of tracks. After touring for a while, he moved permanently: “I literally took two suitcases—one full of records, one full of clothes—and got on a plane with a one-way ticket to New York.”

He started by working at Satellite Records, where he met many of the movers and shakers in the New York music scene. Among them was a manager, Marvin Howell, who assessed Quentin’s talent by giving him a CD full of a cappellas, which included the track “Ready for Love” by an artist named India.Arie. The remix that Quentin did of the song ended up in the hands of Timmy Regisford, who liked it so much that he asked to have a meeting with him. “That was the door opening,” says Quentin.

Quentin considers his big break, however, to be the remix he did of Donnie’s “Cloud 9.” He gave the record to Regisford who liked the record so much that he played it twelve times in one night. “That was the record that started the whirlwind,” says Harris. “There was such demand for it. Everybody was clamoring for it, everyone wanted it, and no one could get it. It was crazy.”

Quentin followed the underground success of “Cloud 9” with his epic remix of Mariah Carey’s “Don’t Forget About Us,” a 13-minute track that demonstrated Harris’ virtuosic production talents—and the track that catapulted him onto the gay scene. In 2005, his original track, “Let’s Be Young,” gave him widespread recognition across Europe, and his reinterpretation of the Leela James classic, “My Joy,” has become legendary. He also produced a remake of the ‘90s After 7 hit “Can’t Stop” with Jason Walker, which was recently nominated for an International Dance Music Award (IDMA) for Best House/Garage Track of 2008.

Keeping the Dance Floor Guessing
The records, although all produced by Harris, are all sonically different. “I do whatever I feel works with the song. I've never been able to confine myself to one sound, and I've always experimented with music and meshing things together. Just like if you hear me DJ, you’ll hear all different kinds of things. My music has always been like that.”

At a time when music is so accessible, and everyone is calling himself a DJ (including iTunes), it can be challenging for an artist with Harris’ musical background and talent. Promoters looking at the bottom line might be more inclined to hire a local iPod DJ to spin Top 40 because they feel that’s what the crowd wants. Harris counters that someone had to play Britney, Whitney, and Madonna for the first time when they were still unknowns.

He believes his job as a DJ, “first and foremost, is to entertain; then you have to inform the people and educate them.” He strives for balance in his playlists. If you hear Madonna in a club, you should also hear an unknown artist that you’ve never heard of. He believes that today’s DJs don’t take enough risks, especially since the average partygoer can download almost anything from such sites as Masterbeat.com and Beatport.

“It goes back to making the record say something,” he comments. Harris sees his job as finding the good stuff and using the most up-to-date technology to spin it in unique ways—just as he heard Junior Vasquez and Timmy Regisford all those years ago.

Harris himself enjoys a huge international following. He travels extensively to London, Frankfurt, Ibiza, and points beyond, including exotic locations like Estonia and South Africa. If you check out his numerous clips on YouTube, you can see how the crowds overseas idolize Harris like a rock star. They stare up at the DJ booth like he’s spinning straw into gold.

He credits his success to his production work. Although Harris has been making records for years, however, he just recently released his debut album, No Politics, on Strictly Rhythm. In addition to his recent hit “Can’t Stop” with Jason Walker, the disc also includes tracks featuring Colton Ford, Monique Bingham, and Byron Stingily.

Harris has also collaborated with House legend Ultra Naté and is currently working on an album with her. He is also putting together his second album, exploring new sounds to incorporate. If you listen to some of his latest tracks on his MySpace page, you can hear some rock elements blended with his trademark House beats. “Like Grace Jones said,” Quentin comments, “give them what they’re not expecting.”

Harris is also exploring the art of songwriting—the one area he has yet to conquer. He’d like to write his own material so that this next album can be a bit more personal. “I feel like I have a lot to say,” he says. “I can make you a fierce track, I can give you a fierce remix, I can produce you a fierce song, but I don’t write songs.” Not yet; Harris’ drive and musical talent will likely produce some future dance classics.

Although only in his 30s, in some ways Quentin Harris is an old soul. His music, though fresh and new, harkens back to the classic House sounds of the past. Real Drama Interview with Josh (from Blaze) Milan

The New Jersey production team known as Blaze authored a number of deep house anthems from the 1980s and '90s, including "If You Should Need a Friend" and "Lovelee Dae" under their own name as well as "Hideaway" by De'lacy and "My Desire" by Amira. Signed to a contract with Motown (ostensibly for their R&B/pop crossover potential) in 1989, the trio of Josh Milan, Kevin Hedge and Chris Herbert issued one solid album for the label before embarking on a career short on LPs but long on stellar productions for a variety of artists. The production wing of Blaze, namely Milan and Hedge (the latter a former gospel singer) began as early favorites on the New York/New Jersey garage scene of the mid-'80s. The pair, both DJs and fans of Tony Humphries' sets at the Newark club Zanzibar, began producing in 1984 and made a name for themselves two years later with a pair of garage classics, "If You Should Need a Friend" and "Whatcha Gonna Do" (with vocals by Colonel Abrams). Remixes and additional production for British synth-popsters ABC led to a recording contract with Motown in 1989. With semi-permanent vocalist Chris Herbert added to the lineup, Blaze released their debut album 25 Years Later in 1990. Though the single "So Special" did well in the clubs, it wasn't quite the crossover Motown expected and the group was dropped.

Though the major labels had enough of crossover house music by the early '90s, there was still a major independent market for the music. Milan and Hedge continued to produce and record, both separately and together, during the decade. In 1994, they wrote and produced the British Top Ten hit "Hideaway" by De'Lacy. Three years later, Blaze added Tee Alford and returned with another club hit ("Lovelee Dae") and their second full-length, Basic Blaze (recorded for the UK-based Slip'N'Slide label). A Blaze retrospective appeared in 1999. 2001 saw the release of Natural Blaze, a tribute to their late friend James Toney, Jr., followed by Spiritually Speaking two years later.

Hippie Torrales began DJing at the age of 15. He came into recognition in NJ and NY after opening “Docks” with co-partner Nelson “Butchie” Nieves. After establishing himself as an innovative and creative jock, Hippie was recognized and hired to work at Abe’s Disco, which was the forerunner for Club Zanzibar. On Friday, August 29, 1979, opening night at Club Zanzibar – Hippie became the resident DJ and opening jock for the club.

During his tenure at Club Zanzibar, Hippie won the prestigious Billboard Award for the best disc jockey in the State of New Jersey – in the same year Larry Levan won the award for New York. It was the last time those Billboard Awards were held. After his resident at Club Zanzibar, Hippie went on to play all the Jersey Shore night clubs. In addition to the club gigs, Hippie worked on music production and remixing. Some of his most notable mixes of that period were Jimmy Ross’ – “Fall Into A Trance” and The Clark Sister’s – “You Brought The Sunshine”, which garnered them a 1 record of New York’s local radio station WBLS and also garnered them a Grammy nomination that year for Best Gospel.

In 1988, Hippie was approached by local record store owner, Joe from Music Village Records and asked Hippie to produce his own record. Hippie thought about the opportunity and went home, borrowed equipment from a friend and began working on his very first original production. He wrote and produced You’re Gonna Miss Me by The Turntable Orchestra, which became a club classic in Europe and has sold over 2 million copies. It was from this moment on that Hippie began traveling overseas and DJing at international clubs and began writing a music column for Discoid Magazine, which was called “What Is Hip.”

Hippie’s remixing career took off when he partnered with Mark Mendoza and created MenTor Productions. They did numerous remixes which included such artists as Lisa Stansfield, Evelyn King, D’Lacy, and most notable Rosie Gaines. In 1997, Hippie and Mark produced Rosie Gaines’ Closer Than Close, which went top 5 in the British Pop Charts and has sold over 8 million units worldwide.

To date, Hippie continues to DJ overseas and currently does an internet radio show on Tuesdays, on CyberJamz.com. He now lives in Florida and is currently collaborating on new production with Jerrell Battle and Jose Burgos of Soul Creation.

Born and raised in Danbury, Connecticut, Dawn began singing in the house of God from childhood. Later, she expanded her body of work into the R&B and Dance scenes. Dawns voice and style have been compared to those of many great vocalists, like Chaka Khan, Karen Wheeler and Oleta Adams, yet her style is completely & audibly her own. Her ear for harmonies and her perfect sense for the placement of backgrounds & adlibs make her a producers dream and an audiences delight. Dawns voice has blessed numerous singles as the featured artist and she is on the must call list for many producers when they are looking for someone to arrange and sing backgrounds. There are but a few individuals who have had success in various musical genres. They are not categorized nor pigeonholed but applauded and respected. Duce Martinez is among them. This DJ, producer, remixer and performer has traveled throughout the music and entertainment industries leaving a body of impressive works and accomplishments. Born in NYC’s Spanish Harlem, Duce, as a child, migrated to Newark, NJ with his family. It was there that the sounds of R&B, Disco, Funk and Jazz began to hold court along side his native homegrown Latin music. Artists such as Tito Puente, Hector LaVoe, and El Gran Combo shared space with Curtis Mayfield, Isaac Hayes, and Earth, Wind & Fire. Duce’s father and uncle were Latin Bandleaders and each had their own band. So when he began to play the piano, bass guitar and percussions, it was no surprised that he found himself playing for both bands! His entry into rap/hip hop began as a break dancer in the world renowned Dynamic Breakers. If spinning on his head wasn’t enough; he also choreographed the music for the group’s performances. Riding the wave of this new phenomenon, Duce, as a Dynamic Breaker appeared in numerous films such as “The Last Dragon”, “Beat Street”, “Fast Forward”, “That’s Dancin’”, and the documentary, “Style Wars”. His television appearances include NBC’s, “The New Show” and ABC’s, “Cathy & Regis Show”. He was also a principal dancer in several music videos, Whodini’s, “The Freaks Come Out At Night”, Afrika Bambaataa’s, “Renegade Of Funk” and an Elton John video. Duce was also a part of the Fresh Fest Tour for 3 years, performing alongside such rap heavyweights as Run DMC, The FatBoys, Whodini, Grandmaster Flash, The Furious Five, Kurtis Blow, U.T.F.O., LL Cool J, and Jermaine Dupree. While in the midst of his hip hop career, Duce found time to build his reputation in the dance music scene. Taking cues from the A-list DJ's of the day, Hippie Torales, Tee Scott, Larry Levan, Tony Humphries, and David Morales, Duce developed a butter smooth mixing style repleat with intricate overlays and undetectable transitions. Being the visionary, he quickly transformed this skill into an income producing business hosting and promoting dance music parties in his neighborhood. It was at this time he met future business partner, Jose Burgos. Jose, also a talented DJ, was spinning at a rival event in the neighborhood. Impressed with what he heard, Duce invited him to a "battle of the DJ's" contest...against him....of course! A surprised Duce took his losing as an opening line to join forces with Jose. This newly formed DJ/music production outfit dubbed Soul Creation, wasted no time and by the early 1990's, the demo of "A Little Hyper Now" found its way into the hands of Music Village Records A&R honcho, Eddie "Satin" Maduro. Released as a 12 inch single, "A Little Hyper Now" by studio moniker T. S. U. made some noise with DJ's and dance floor enthusists planting Duce and Jose firmly in the driver's seat of the latest "hot-to-death" producers. By the mid to late 1990's, Duce and Jose as Soul Creation and Duce (keeping one foot cemented in the hip hop/R&B scene) emassed a resume that resembles a who's who list of outstanding recording artists: T La Rock, Fearless Four, The Treachrous Three, Just Ice, King Sun, Lauren Hill, Ted Mills (Blue Magic), Raw Stilo, India, Kenny Bobien, Su Su Bobien, Stephanie Cooke, Colonel Abrams, the late Sabrynaah Pope, Michelle Weeks, Dawn Tallman, Cassio Ware, Theo Gerideau, to name a few. Continuing forward as among the most sought after producers and remixers, Duce's latest projects include working with the talented singer/actress Miki Howard, countless remixes featuring re-worked tunes by Arnold Jarvis and producing the Latina diva, Misu featured on Deepa Records. If that's not enough, Duce in keeps ties with his Latin roots producing Spanish hip/hop and Reggaeton (urban salsa with reggae beats). Through it all, he still finds time to DJ, keeping his skills sharpened and fine tuned as he entertains nightclub audiences stateside and abroad with his unique style of DJing. His no-nonsense approach to the music business has earned him respect among his peers, and in return, he humbles gracefully. Duce, a hard working and dedicated DJ, producer, remixer has but one goal...to be the best at what he loves most...MUSIC. ..

Real Drama Interview With Stephanie Cooke
Explicit
April 03, 2009 12:20 PM PDT
itunes pic

Stephanie grew up in the inner city of Newark, New Jersey and like most of her contemporaries got her start by singing in church. At the tender age of 9, she belted out a stirring rendition of “I Made A Vow” as stunned parishioners listened to her sing. At 15 she wrote her first song, but it wasn’t until 10 years later that she would pen her first non-gospel song. Naturally, her latter influences would never stray far from the former. Stephanie credits Fred Hammond, The Clark Sisters and Marvin Winans as being her greatest influences as a vocalist. Her songwriting influences, however lean more towards Stevie Wonder, Diane Warren, and Babyface.

Stephanie’s professional music career began when she entered a production studio in hope of procuring some studio time as a prize for a talent show she was coordinating. After obtaining an impromptu a cappella session, she was signed to a production deal on the spot. Unfortunately, the following two and a half years of writing and recording went by without the production company releasing one song. As if bred by defiance, her motivation propelled her lifelong dedication to music and songwriting. Determined to make up for lost time, she gathered all her songs and started making cold calls to every publishing company she could find. Before long she was picked up and the following year would yield some dramatic results. Stephanie has since worked as a songwriter with Chanté Moore, Jermaine Dupri (for Aretha Franklin’s “Every Little Bit Hurts”), All-Star, and with Soul Shock and Carlin wrote Shiro’s “I Like”. Additionally she’s worked on remixes for SWV, Changing Faces, The Braxtons with DJ Enuff, and background vocals for the latest Diana Ross album with Malik Pendleton. She’s written “Do You Need” for Tyrese, “Be Mine” for Charlotte, “Are You Ready”, “You’ll Never Find a Love” from Jodie Watley’s “Off the Hook” album, and “I’m Your Lady” for Meeka and has also written for Phaja. Furthermore, on an international level, she wrote the song “Love of Mine” for Japanese R&B diva, Double. In 1997 she wrote and sang 3 songs for “Closer”, an album composed by Japanese producer Shinichi Osawa also known as Mondo Grosso.

To date Stephanie has released four singles on King Street Sounds, three as a solo artist, which include “Excuses”, “Love’s Been Right Here”, as well as “Holding On To your Love”, which she co-produced and was a top 5 single on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music Club Play chart. She has since had numerous incredible songs that include remixes by Masters At Work’s own Li’l Louie Vega, entitled “Here With My Best Friend”, “Everything”, with remixes by 95 North, “I Thank You” remixed by BLAZE & Timmy Regisford as well as Lenny Fontana and her latest “Rain (Let It Come Down” with remixes by Jay-J Hernandez and Dennis Ferrer. Her catalog has certainly been getting lots of worldwide play including Galaxy FM, UK, Radio FMR, France, Radio 1, Norway, and many more. All in all, Stephanie has propelled herself as an artist with her own identity, combining her prowess as an R&B/Gospel songstress alongside the buzz that has already ignited the Dance community.

Jozana started his musical journey in this thing called house in the early '80s at the age of 13. He credits The Hot Mix 5, Ron Hardy, and Lil' Louis as his major influences in dance music. "My father was a music professor so he made sure we were exposed to so many different genres of music." After DJing for more than a decade in and around Chicago, in the late '90s he decided to take the route of many before him and start producing, which culminated into winning the 2004 West End Records International Music Search with his song " If Things Don't Get Better" with Avery J. Young on vocals. "I've had some people in the past complain because I sometimes play house music a lot slower than a lot of DJs but I think because of my South African heritage, that's how I feel it." Next up for Jozana are projects with Cei Bei, Carolyn Victorian, and teaming up with Avery Young once again. It's been almost 2 years since Jozana has played in Detroit – since his days as an Urban Organic resident at LUSH in Hamtramck . Stay tuned for his new single, "I Told You So " featuring Cei Bei on Unified Records with remixes by Glenn Underground, which, after promotions at the Winter Music Conference in Miami 2 years ago has been tearing up dance floors around the globe.
